Entertainment Week - we close out the week with Simon heading outside to escape the modern world

 Hey everyone, hope you are keeping well.


 Entertainment….I suppose it means different things to different people? Is it TV? A social activity? A hobby? A means to escape the daily grind? For me, I suppose it’s a way to leave work behind and have fun and/or relax. It’s been such a hard year for all the obvious reasons that I’m sure everyone needs something to take them away from it all.


 When the pandemic started over here there was a real sense of panic over where we would be at after a few months of it. Nobody knew where we would be at. Would we have a job? Stuck at home being paid by the government? Stuck at home with nothing? So much crazy stuff went down in that first few months. There was a massive spike in people panic buying vegetable seeds, worm farms, chickens…lots of people thought they would be living out of their back yard forever. Everyone was bulk-buying flour like they were going to bake their way back to normality.


Over here Foxtel (satellite TV) was handing out free movie channels and entertainment packs. Lots of book stores recorded record sales, mostly online of course. Look at how well Amazon, eBay, etc have done recently…It seemed to me that there was a massive public panic because all of sudden we would be TRAPPED AT HOME FOR AGES AND WOULD HAVE TO TRY AND ENTERTAIN OURSELVES! I was personally looking forward to being told to stay at home for a while but alas I had to keep working. 


I can honestly say that my entertainment habits have hardly changed this year. I still read, watch some movies, play D&D every week, spend a lot of time in the kitchen and go outside and potter around in the garden. We are very lucky as we have the space and are free to come and go as we choose…for now.


I guess these last six months or so have made me realize how lucky we in that whatever we want to do or wherever we want to go to entertain ourselves, we can do it with little or no restrictions. There are lots of people less fortunate...

Week 49 - Simon says, 'Count your blessings my fellow Aussies'

Edited BY G P Kennedy Simon - Perth, WA   Hi everyone, hope all is well wherever you are.  So here we are at the end of March in Western Australia, which means over 12 months of the Pandemic.   Across all of the country, the vaccines are being slowly rolled out but we are not hitting our intended targets.   This seems to be a combination of lack of supply and the doses being given by GP’s rather than at vaccination centers. I guess the only thing that stops this from being a real concern is the size of our case numbers.   The vast majority of our small number of cases is from returned overseas travelers who are put in quarantine anyway.   This week sees a small outbreak in Queensland with some community transmission. This has led to a snap three-day lockdown to try and contain it and perform contact tracing.  Going forward it looks like this will happen fairly frequently. Week 15 - Wednesday in Milan explores the 'new normal' for Ellie

Edited BY G P Kennedy Ellie - Milan, Italy    “How are y'all doing?” a friend from Texas asked me recently. I am happy to report that the contagion rate in Italy have been mostly down. Daily rates of new infections have been around 150 for the country.    I have the feeling, though, that this is due not only to scared people who mostly stick to their masks and distancing, but of the possibility to do things outdoors, which is what helps with holding new infections down. There are many unwelcome signs for change, though. For example, hope for getting rid of plastics, and its dispersal in the environment, is definitely given up.    Now that all coffee shops, company cafeterias and restaurants that hope to have clients indoors are required to outfit their spaces with distancing partitions, plastic has drastically increased.
