Week 26 Photo Story from Milan, as summer draws to its end

Ellie -Milan, Italy

The end of summer is here! Frankly, I am so happy that it is over, in terms of the pandemic, because people went a bit too overboard forgetting about social distancing on beaches and trails.

However, my enthusiasm was short-lived when I saw how people continued doing the same back in the city.

And the puzzling over how urban public transport will be handled is over, too: it is as chaotic as I had thought it would be. Sure, rules are in place, but they mostly protect the drivers.

People? They fight. There are those following rules.

Then there are the so-called negazionisti, a term usually reserved for Holocaust deniers. In this case, they deny the existence of a pandemic. Yes, in Milan.

Perhaps, with news about infections in other countries taking a turn for the worse, Italians' confidence has been growing. We feel we have been doing the right thing to a point we are starting to forget the panic, isolation, and mental fog of March and April. Here's hope that we will not be reminded of them too rudely.
