Gul – Aegean Coast, Turkey |
October in this Aegean coast means calm and peaceful days. I have never had such a quiet life at any time of my life. It’s a full retirement period that we never planned. We have our breakfast in the garden. Then take a little walk.
It takes some little Internet hangouts, some readings. We don’t go swimming anymore, but reading on the beach is good too. Many houses have shutters closed. It’s a bit sad; a sign of another summer is over. We say bye to a neighbor to the big city every day, make plans for the next summer.
DECISIONS, DECISIONS
We have finally made a decision to move from Istanbul, which we had been thinking about for a while and couldn’t make a decision. Just three years ago, we moved from England to Istanbul and settled in by renovating our home. Unfortunately, we realized that Istanbul, a big city did not fit our future plans, it didn’t match our expectations for a quieter, better quality life.
We rented this summerhouse for another year and paid for a year in advance. We can relax and, we found an area that we would like to live permanently during both winter and summers, it’s close to where we are now and very close to the town center too.
People say it’s difficult to find a house over there but we can wait for a place close to the beach with a heating system. Our plan is now to return to Istanbul when the weather gets colder, maybe in mid-November, and come back here in May. Of course, we’ll come back if there’s a place available to rent.
SPECULATIVE COVID NUMBERS
The Ministry of Health was not reporting the number of asymptomatic COVID cases; this has caused so much speculation and confusion. Nonofficial documents were showing nearly 20 times more cases for a day than the official figures. What a mess! The Doctors’ Association has disputed the ministry’s official figures since the start of the pandemic. I quit checking the daily numbers anyway. For the record, as of yesterday (10th Oct), there were 1629 new cases and 55 deaths (official numbers).
Wishing you a nice healthy autumn!
