So we are into our first week of Lock Down Part 2, The Sequel, The Return, and Season 2. For us personally, nothing has changed as we still were following the rules from the first time around and only really leaving our house for a daily walk or to go to the shop or in more recent weeks, for work.
The only difference I have noticed so far during this lockdown is that pubs and restaurants are shut so the high street is a bit quieter. Panic buying didn’t really kick off like I feared it would do, or maybe this time around the supermarkets were more prepared for it?
The high streets might be quieter but we live opposite a big park and this weekend, the first in lockdown, the park was so busy that we had traffic jams up and down the street. I understand that the children spend the week in school and that their parents want them to get fresh air before the weather turns really cold but it was so busy it was hard to social distance.
Liverpool, where my parents and sister live, are running a two-week trial where they are encouraging everyone in the city to get a COVID test, whether or not you have symptoms, and also you can get multiple tests done in the time scale. As Liverpool has one of the highest R rates in the UK this trial will hopefully show the full extent of Covid and also how many people are asymptomatic.
If this trial is successful they might do it throughout the UK. My parents had the test today and the results came back a few hours later with both of them being negative.
Although I have had to turn work down for this upcoming month due to not being able to travel around England, I did pick up three days of work in London last minute, which was nice. As it was only about 10 miles away from our house I could either drive or get the tube. I debated for a couple of days on what to do, as I hadn’t got public transport since March.
The tube would be the cheaper of the two options as parking in London is ridiculously expensive but the thought of getting on public transport caused me so much anxiety to the point that it gave me insomnia, I decided to drive. I know I will have to get a bus or a train at some point but at the moment I see it as an unnecessary risk.
Before I go I just want to say WELL DONE AMERICA!
Stay safe xx
