Week 36 - despite good news on vaccines an unhappy Christmas awaits in England

The big story that is dominating the news is that the UK has given the go-ahead for the Covid 19 vaccine and will start immunization this week.
The Government has drawn up a priority list of the order of who will get it first.
This means I will probably be in Group 10, which is fine by me as vaccines usually take years to be cleared safe for use and this one has been rushed through in 6 months.
The Government is saying that all trials have been followed correctly and it will give 95% cover.
Apparently, the only people they haven’t carried trials on are pregnant women and children under 16 so they will not give injections to those two groups.
So, we came out of lockdown last week and it seems that some people have gone Christmas crazy with thousands of people flocking into central London to do their shopping.
This amount of people amazes and shocks me. We are still in tiers, with London being in tier 2, but this photo of Regent Street is just crazy.
Closer to home we have decided to try and get into the spirit of Christmas but putting the tree up. Ideally, we would have loved a real one but I don’t think pine needles and a one-year-old mix! So for now our plastic tree is safe behind the playpen, hopefully out of harm's way!
My parents are undecided as to whether they put their tree up this year as they say they don’t feel Christmassy at all. My nieces usually help mum put the tree up but as you still aren’t allowed in other people's homes, mum feels there is no need to decorate for just for the two of them.
I have ordered some special tree decorations that am going to fill with photos of their granddaughters and guilt them into putting the tree up so they can hang them. Hopefully, it helps.
They have had a really crap year with my dad's heart attack and my uncle passing away and a huge family get-together would be the perfect cure but thanks to COVID that’s not going to happen.
This is the first year since I was born that we will not be spending it together and it's a horrible feeling.
Stay Safe xx
