By the end of 2021…
Seems like a long way away at the moment. I can think of a big list of things that I think everyone would like.
I would very much like the same I am sure but it is difficult to think ahead and imagine what would make New Year’s 2021 so different.
First up I would love to be able to listen to or read the news and not be bombarded with an ever more bewildering array of facts and figures about the Virus - how many cases there are, how many deaths, the economic fallout, and the projected outcomes.
I know we won’t have beaten this thing by this time next year but I really hope we are on top of it with a combination of vaccines, safe practices, hard lockdowns, and border closures when required, and efficient contact tracing.
Truth be told we have barely been touched by it here in Western Australia and I’m still sick of it. I can scarcely imagine what it is like around the globe, especially for my friends and family in the UK and USA.
Secondly, I would love for everyone to wise up to the fact that most politicians are a bunch of self-serving, lying, power-hungry maniacs who think they were voted into office they are somehow bigger and better than us.
The way that governments and authorities have handled this pandemic varies massively from country to country and that has directly led to millions of people dying already. The two countries mentioned above are a great example of how not to do it.
However, it is also up to the populace as a whole to simply shut up and get on with doing what you have been asked or told to do. It might be hard, it might be financially difficult but you might just save yourself and a bunch of other people in the process.
Lastly, I would love it everyone got to the end of the year and just realized how much the small things matter – a movie night on the couch with the kids.
Pottering around your back garden checking on the veggies. Reading a book you have been waiting to get your hands on for ages.
It’s the small stuff, I reckon if we all look after that then the big stuff gets a bit easier. We might all end up being a bit more chilled out and nicer human beings as well. Maybe some politicians should try it…
Well, I think I have well and truly gotten off track now so stay safe, stay home if you need to, and look out for each other.
