Week 41 - Music Festival - music sets us free and reminds us of who we are

Over the past year, music has seen me through the good and the bad.

It has often scooped me out of despairing moods and been a source of calm and comfort.

The right playlist can help us to forget the seriousness of daily life, and encourage us to laugh and be silly.

It doesn’t matter whether I’m bopping on the bus, singing in my bedroom, or full-on crazy dancing in the kitchen with my sisters; there has been a song for it all this year.

Music has also made me proud of my heritage and enabled me to feel understood. Particularly during the Black Lives Matter protests this summer, when the world was reminded of how music can speak powerfully as a vehicle of protest.

Music has championed and encouraged me up to use my own voice too, before important presentations and interviews.

This year, I have yearned for the thrill of live music.

Whether it’s a rave or a rock concert, nothing compares to the feeling of shared appreciation when you’re part of an audience.

In these times of uncertainty, music has been the one stabilizing factor, and for that I am grateful.
