Welcome to Music Week 2.0.

Last year we had a great time as our Storytellers shared a couple of songs that mean a lot to them. Music Week 1.0 culminated in the launch of our first Spotify playlist

This time around our Storytellers share a few thoughts on the ways in which music has sustained them during the pandemic.

They also list a few of the songs that have got them dancing; cheered them up; helped start their days, and helped them to sleep at night.

Gul - Aegean Coast, Turkey

MUSIC AND ME

In this global pandemic plus our own political turmoil in Turkey, music has become my escape to find some joy and comfort.

Music created a sense of participation in my isolated life in the last 12 months.

While missing my normal social life music was here to connect with each other, manage my stress, and a reminder of the good old days.

Maybe that’s why the songs on my list may feel a bit nostalgic.

Happy songYa Rayah - Rachid Taha

Sad songWhere Dreams Go To Die - John Grant and the BBC Philharmonic

Mood changing tune - You Can Call Me Al - Paul Simon

I have to dance when I hearLet’s Dance - Chris Rea

Morning song2-4-6-8 Motorway - Tom Robinson Band

Night-time songBridge Over Troubled Water - Simon and Garfunkel

Most listened to of 2020 – The Best - Tina Turner

I couldn't have made it through 2020 without listening toViolin Concertos - Bruch & Mendelssohn
