Week 41 - Rock and metal Day at the Festival

Hello everyone, hope you are safe and well!

Music and me…..well that’s a pretty broad and large topic.

Music has been a massive part of my life for around 40 years and has got me through just about every situation imaginable.

I listen to music every day, sometimes for maybe 2-5 hours or so if I’m driving at work or in the kitchen doing something crazy.

A lot of what I listened to in my early days was rock/heavy metal and not much else

Even though metal is my first love I can get into everything from Blues and Reggae to Folk music from all around the world.

I have always loved watching bands live and have been lucky enough to see some of the greats as well as most of my favorite ones.

These include Iron Maiden, AC/DC, original Black Sabbath, Neil Young and Crazyhorse, Queen (last ever show at Knebworth), and Tool.

Good music can complement any mood you are in and can bring you down or raise you up depending on which way you want to go.

It’s been there for me from Births, Deaths, relationship break-ups, dramatic world events, and road trips.

Now that I have finally found Spotify and have a car that just hooks up to my phone I’m loving it more than ever.

Loads of bands and songs from my past can now be played in the blink of an eye. Technology has a lot to answer for but when it gets it right it changes your world.

Ok so on to the list-

Happy Song - Blood Brothers by Iron Maiden. These guys are my all-time favorite band so they have to be in there so might as well be number 1. This is an epic song about friends, family, togetherness with a great chorus. Track down a live version for an even more uplifting experience! Up The Irons!

Sad Song - Everybody Hurts by REM. Maybe a bit predictable but try playing this after you have lost someone and not balling your eyes out and letting the grief out. Actually a great healing song and if you can get through it always makes you feel better.

Mood-Changing Song - My My, Hey Hey(Out of the Blue) by Neil Young. I love Neil Young and his unique voice and live it is something else. This song is good because it can turn you from sad to happy or happy to sad. It depends on how you take the lyrics and if you are feeling optimistic or pessimistic.

I have to dance when I hear…there is generally not enough beer in the universe for me to break into a dance routine so ill let someone else get you to do it. Shut up and Dance by Aerosmith.

Morning Song - Abra Cadaver by The Hives.

This is the perfect get up in the morning song played as loud as you possibly can.

You should be done and dressed and ready for work by the end of it.

Night time Song - The Lighthouse Song by Josh Pyke.

One of many fantastic Australian artists. Great and clever lyrics and a bit dark sometimes.

We used to play this all the time to get the kids to sleep.

Most Listened to in 2020 - Zombies Ate My Pirate Ship by Alestorm. This is hands-down one of the best songs ever written.

There is no way you cannot be smiling your face off after listening to this if you have had a crap day at work.

It’s a bit sweary but we are all grown-ups.

Well, apart from Alestorm, who are a Scottish Pirate Metal Band, and my best and biggest discovery of 2020.

Well, there you go, hope you listen to them all and maybe like a few…
